Posted by: | CommentsBell signs unprecedented media and mobile content agreement with Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium

Bell customers will benefit from 4,500 hours of 2010 Winter Games programming on Bell Mobility and Bell TV in HD
Bell, a Premier National Partner and the Exclusive Telecommunications Partner to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, today announced an agreement with Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium that will give Bell customers unprecedented access
to Olympic Games content on both Bell Mobility and Bell TV.
The most ambitious and all-encompassing media package ever assembled in Canada for a single Olympic Games, it gives Bell exclusive media sponsorship rights and exclusivity in the Fixed and Mobile Telecommunications Productscategory.
The Consortium, which is the official Canadian broadcaster of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, will provide Bell with content from 10 Consortium networks in 22 languages. Bell TV will carry all 10 Consortium networks (in high definition for Bell TV HD subscribers) and
Bell Mobility will feature seven networks for fans to watch the Games live on enabled handsets wherever they go. Consortium stations include English networks CTV, Sportsnet, TSN, and OLN, French networks V, RDS, and RIS Info
Sports, and multi-language networks OMNI, APTN and ATN.
For the first time, customers will also be able to access dedicated broadcast feeds from nine competition venues on their mobile phones and through Bell TV. These dedicated mobile venue feeds provide unedited, uninterrupted coverage of the competitions as they take place and are
exclusive to Bell customers.
“With Bell, Canadians can truly be ready for the 2010 Winter Games and follow them anytime and anywhere,” said Wade Oosterman, President of Bell Mobility and Chief Brand Officer for Bell. “This partnership provides Bell customers with unprecedented access to the Olympic experience, something no
other telecommunications company in Canada can offer. This is the ultimate front-row seat at the Games.”
Bell Mobility clients will be able to watch exclusive mobile content through live streams and exclusive web video content through the Consortium’s mobile sites CTVOlympics.ca and RDSolympiques.ca. With Bell TV HD, subscribers will also be able to experience all of this in high definition,
further solidifying Bell’s position as the country’s leading HD channel provider.
“Today’s announcement marks a watershed moment in Canadian media.
Together with Bell, we are offering consumers complete control of their Olympic Games experience,” said Keith Pelley, President, Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium. “The appetite for media consumption across multiple platforms has never been stronger in Canada, and at Vancouver 2010, the demand for content will be at an all-time high. With this partnership, the most ambitious content deal in Canada for an Olympic Games, we will deliver unparalleled choice enabling Canadians to watch what they want, when they want and how they want.”
For the ultimate hockey fan, Bell TV will offer two “player-cams”
focusing on individual players for every men’s hockey game during the Olympic Winter Games, and will also offer pre-packaged hockey-related content, such as post-game Team Canada highlight features. Every day throughout the Games, Canadians will have the opportunity to vote on the Bell Fan Choice Awards, a daily award in which fans select the “best of” from a variety of Games-related categories. The winners will be announced during Olympic Prime Time on CTV and V. Bell is the exclusive carrier of the Samsung OMNIA II, which is the Official Mobile Device of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The Samsung OMNIA II will be the ultimate device for accessing Bell’s comprehensive offering of 2010 Winter Games mobile content. OMNIA II owners will also be able to download Samsung’s Wireless Olympic Works (WOW) communications platform, designed to provide real-time information to keep Olympic fans connected and informed during the Games.
During the 2010 Winter Games, every image seen on television, every storyread around the world and every real-time score transmitted will traverse a communications solution designed by Bell. Bell’s dedicated 2010 Winter Games
network will deliver the Games to Canada and to more than three billion viewers around the world.

EchoStar Committed To Mexican Satellite-TV Venture
Posted by: | Commentshttp://www.goodfta.com
MEXICO CITY Echostar said Monday that it remains committed to its satellite-TV venture in Mexico, in which it plans to invest $ 112 million over a 10-year period.
“The business has got off to a good start and clearly gotten the attention of the competition,” EchoStar Chairman and Chief Executive Charles Ergen said during a conference call to discuss third-quarter results.
EchoStar formed a joint-venture with Mexican telecommunications firm MVS Comunicaciones in November 2008 to sell pay-TV packages for as little as 149 pesos ($11.20) a month to low-income consumers. EchoStar holds a 24% indirect stake in the venture, called Dish Mexico.
Dish Mexico competes directly with the cable and satellite TV subsidiaries of media giant Grupo Televisa SAB (TV), Mexico’s No. 1 television broadcaster and the largest producer of Spanish-language content in the world.
Televisa’s satellite-TV unit, Sky Mexico, responded to competition from Dish by launching its own low-cost package earlier this year.
Dish Mexico’s operations benefit from a billing-and-distribution agreement signed last year with the country’s largest fixed-line phone company, Telefonos de Mexico SAB (TMX), or Telmex.
Telmex, which is prohibited from directly selling pay-TV services to its clients, has hinted that it could invest in Dish Mexico if it were to receive the necessary regulatory approval.
While declining to comment on the number of subscribers at Dish Mexico, Ergen said “it’s a business that has good growth potential and profitability potential.”
EchoStar said Monday in its 10-Q filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that, so far, it has contributed $59 million in the form of cash, equipment and services as part of its investment in Dish Mexico.
EchoStar said it expects to satisfy its remaining investment commitment by contributing about $27 million in cash and the rest in the form of services or equipment.

Bell TV first in Canada to offer 100 High Definition TV channels
Posted by: | CommentsSignificant milestone enhances Canada’s best HD service
MONTREAL, Nov. 2 2009 — In an address to The Canadian Club today
in Montréal, Bell and BCE President and CEO George Cope announced that Bell
has reaffirmed its TV leadership in Québec and across Canada by becoming the
first television provider in the country to offer 100 High Definition
channels.
“Bell TV offers more High Definition TV channels than anyone else in
Canada – more hit shows, more movies, more sports and more family programming
in HD than any cable or satellite provider,” said Mr. Cope. “Reaching 100 HD
channels is a significant milestone that both enhances our lead in the
industry and supports our strategic imperative to leverage our wireline
momentum here at Bell. It’s another step on the journey to achieving our
goal: For Bell to be recognized by customers as Canada’s leading
communications company.”
Said Kevin Crull, President of Bell Residential Services: “Bell TV
customers have let us know they love High Definition, and we are delivering
with the most HD channels in the country. Offering 100 HD channels reflects
the hard work and investment we have put into Bell TV since launching HD just
eight years ago. With Bell TV’s stunning HD picture quality and Canada’s best
HD PVR, watching TV just got better.”
Bell TV offers the best picture quality, the most free HD channels and
bonuses like the Bell TV Online portal that lets subscribers take their TV
with them, with online content that can be watched anywhere in Canada.
The new channels added today reflect Bell TV’s commitment to bring
Canadians the HD programming that keeps them entertained and informed about
their communities, the country and the world. Bell TV’s HD selection includes
the best variety from Canadian and foreign broadcasting services such as
local TV from CTV, CBC, Global, CITY, CBS, FOX, ABC, NBC and PBS; top
specialty and pay TV services such as TSN, TMN, Movie Central, National
Geographic, Showcase, A&E, as well as premium sporting and movies featuring
the NHL, NFL and MLB. The most recent additions to the Bell TV roster are Los
Angeles’ KTLA HD, New York’s WPIX and Boston’s WSBK.
Today’s announcement follows a series of initiatives that have placed
Bell at the forefront of broadcasting distribution. Last month, the company
launched TMN Online – the first service in North America where authentication
and access are linked to the subscriber, rather than to the home Internet
connection. TMN Online is offered through the Bell TV Online portal at no
extra cost to TMN subscribers and enables them to view movies and premium
content from any computer in Canada. The Bell TV Online portal offers the
best online quality and the convenience of allowing the subscriber to use the
same log in information as used for managing their Bell account. Bell TV
online can be accessed at bell.ca/TVonline.
Today, Bell also announced that on November 11 it will enhance Bell TV
Online with the launch of Family Channel Online and Playhouse Disney Online.
Bell also announced it would begin offering AMC in standard definition and
High Definition on November 11.
Bell TV is Canada’s leader in digital home entertainment with more than
1.9 million customers and broadcasting more than 500 digital video and audio
channels. Bell TV was launched in September 1997 and since then has become
the largest direct-to-home satellite company in Canada and the fastest
growing in North America. Bell TV’s stunning HD picture quality is 10 times
better than cable.
